KEPODIL 50 Dry Syrup is a brand of Cefpodoxime which is 3rd Generation Cephalosporin Antibiotic. It is bactericidal & broad spectrum against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria with enhanced anti-staphylococcal activity and stability in the presence of several beta lactamases.
Mode of Action: It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis
Indications and dose:
Community Acquired pneumonia: 200 mg BID for 14 days
Pharyngitis/tonsillitis: 100 mg BID for 5-10 days
Acute maxillary sinusitis: 200 mg BID for 14 days
Skin & Soft Tissue infections: 400 mg BID for 7-14 days
Uncomplicated Urinary Tract Infections: 100 mg BID for 7 days
Sexually Transmitted disease: 200 mg single dose
Paediatric Dose :10mg/Kg/day
Typhoid fever : 20mg/Kg/day
Max Paediatric Dose: 400 mg/day
Pregnancy: Category B
Lactation: Has been reported to appear in human milk. Breast feeding should be discontinued when taking Cefpodoxime.
Pediatrics: Safe even in 15 days old baby
Geriatrics: Safe in old patients.
Contraindications: Hypersensitivity reactions to penicillin, cephalosporins and other beta-lactam antibiotics, beta-lactamase inhibitors or any excipient used in the formulations.
Precautions: Caution advised in patients receiving diuretics concurrently.
Adverse effects: Diarrhoea, nausea, vaginal fungal infections, vomiting, headache.
